Jota Out for Liverpool's Crucial Fixtures Due to Injury
Liverpool faces a challenging period with Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliott sidelined due to injuries. As they prepare for crucial matches, manager Arne Slot emphasizes the need for careful squad management amidst ongoing fitness concerns.
Liverpool forward Diogo Jota is anticipated to be out of action until after the upcoming international break. The Portuguese star is still recovering from an injury he suffered during the Reds' victory over Chelsea earlier this month. Jota, who had been in excellent form with four goals this season, will be missed as Liverpool prepares for their Carabao Cup match against Brighton on Wednesday.
Slot discussed the ongoing challenges faced by Italian forward Federico Chiesa, who has been affected by injury issues. 'His condition fluctuates, so at times he's with us training for a few days and then he's sidelined again due to injury,' Slot explained. He stressed the importance of avoiding setting a specific timeline for Chiesa's recovery, stating, 'We must ensure he returns in the best possible shape without any pressure.'
The Liverpool manager dismissed the idea of Chiesa being loaned back to Italy in January, emphasizing that his fitness is first priority. 'It's been challenging so far, but I am fully confident that we will find the right approach to strengthen him without putting too much pressure on him,' Slot added.
Reflecting on the squad depth, Slot mentioned he would not repeat the extensive changes made in the previous League Cup match against West Ham, which resulted in a 5-1 victory. 'We have some injuries, so we may not have enough players to change them all,' he stated, highlighting the necessity for careful consideration of the lineup.
