James Berry and Dilan Markanday on target for the Spireites.
Chesterfield achieved their first home victory since their return to the Football League with a 2-1 win over Grimsby, despite playing with ten men for much of the match.
The Spireites scored in the 27th minute when James Berry's low free-kick from the left side evaded Grimsby goalkeeper Jordan Wright. Dilan Markanday extended Chesterfield's lead in stoppage time of the first half, pouncing on a loose ball from close range after the defence failed to clear.
Grimsby's Charles Vernam pulled one back early in the second half, finding the roof of the net following a dynamic run from midfield. Chesterfield’s task was made more difficult when Darren Oldaker received a second yellow card and was sent off in the 67th minute.
Despite being a man down, Chesterfield managed to hold on for the win, marking a significant milestone for the club in their league campaign.
