The backlash comes as UEFA announced a reduction in the cap on away ticket prices for the Champions League, lowering the maximum price to €60 (GBP £51) this season and to €50 next season. Caps are also in place for the Europa League and Conference League.

Meanwhile, Premier League away ticket prices remain capped at GBP £30 under a three-year agreement that began in June 2022. However, the FSA fears that dynamic pricing could lead to even steeper rises for home supporters in the near future, threatening to undermine the affordability of football for loyal fans.

FSA Warns of Massive Backlash Against Dynamic Pricing in English Football

FSA Warns of Massive Backlash Against Dynamic Pricing in English Football

The practice has hit the headlines in recent days after the cost of Oasis tickets soared even as fans queued online to buy them.

The Football Supporters Association (FSA) has issued a strong warning to any club contemplating the introduction of dynamic pricing in English football, vowing that it would face "enormous opposition." Dynamic pricing, widely used in industries like travel, adjusts prices based on demand. The model has recently drawn attention after Oasis concert tickets surged in price as fans waited in online queues.

Although dynamic pricing is rare in European football, with Spanish clubs Valencia and Celta Vigo currently adopting the model, concerns are growing that some English clubs are already inflating prices based on the quality of the opposition. The FSA has also expressed alarm over the fact that 19 of the 20 Premier League clubs raised ticket prices this summer, with children and senior citizens—who rely on concession pricing—being particularly impacted.

"With impeccable timing after the Oasis fiasco, voices in football have started to float the idea of infecting football with dynamic pricing," the FSA said in a statement. "Never underestimate the potential for the most greedy owners in football to try and import terrible ideas from other industries to exploit supporter loyalty."

Fans are already mobilizing against recent ticket price hikes and attacks on concessions, the FSA said, promising fierce resistance to any further price manipulation.
