Shaw went to Euro 2024 despite enduring an injury-hit 2023/24 season, and will also miss the start of the new campaign for United.
Peter Schmeichel asserts that Luke Shaw ought to have prioritized Manchester United over the England national team, following the left-back's exclusion from the beginning of the season due to yet another injury setback. Shaw's last appearance for United occurred in February, as he faced a season plagued by injuries, resulting in only 15 appearances across all competitions. Nevertheless, he participated in Euro 2024 with the England squad. The 29-year-old player entered as a substitute in both the quarter-finals and semi-finals, ultimately starting in England's final match against Spain on July 14.

He has yet to make an appearance for United during the pre-season, as the club announced earlier this week that he sustained a calf injury, which will sideline him for at least the first three matches of the season. Former United legend Schmeichel has expressed his disappointment regarding Shaw's absence and has questioned his choice to participate in the Euros.
"What truly frustrates me as a Manchester United supporter is that Luke Shaw has not played for United since February, yet he still chose to attend the Euros," Schmeichel stated on BBC Radio 5 Live. "He did not feature in the group stage, and while he played some minutes in the quarter-finals, he only participated in parts of the semi-final and started in the final.
"Now he finds himself injured once more. His experience is invaluable, and he is an exceptional left-back. "As a Manchester United player, he is compensated by the club. His focus should be on prioritizing Manchester United over his national team. "If he had been fit and actively playing, then attending the Euros would have been acceptable. However, that was not the case. "I had high hopes for Luke Shaw's fitness this season, as he is crucial to our success. I was optimistic that we could strengthen the team to prevent conceding easy goals, which was a significant issue for us last season."
