Anderson, who made history as the first Black player to earn a full England cap in 1978, believes these young talents have a significant opportunity to shine but must rise to the occasion. “It will be interesting to see how these young lads fare,” Anderson told the PA news agency. “The transition from Under-21s to the senior squad is substantial. Some players thrive while others may struggle.”

He pointed to Phil Foden as a prime example of a young player who has excelled at the senior level, suggesting that this is the attitude required. “Phil Foden embraced the challenge and excelled,” Anderson said. “The young players, like Livramento and Gibbs-White, need to seize this chance and show they can make a similar impact.”

Anderson, a former right-back who earned 30 international caps and won the European Cup twice with Nottingham Forest, stressed the importance of maintaining high standards. “You need to bring the same level of performance from your club to the national team,” he advised. “It’s crucial to replicate your club standards, starting with the basics—making tackles, headers, and accurate passes.”
